Real estate developer plans to leave grid

Ron Taylor is no hippie, but this Toronto-based real estate developer is planning to take his Nova Scotia home off the grid. Over the next four years Taylor will be taking steps towards becoming completely energy independent, including installing a solar panel roof and erecting a windmill on his two-acre property.

Initially inspired by his brother who had installed a wood stove and heat pumps in his home, Taylor has since removed his oil-fired furnace and replaced it with electric heat. He is also collecting rainwater at the Mushaboom farmhouse.

The green renovation project is slated to cost upward of $40,000. To read more about Taylor and what experts are saying about green renovation, click here.
