Bill Blakemore talks to Bill McKibben from DESMOG Blog
Environmental author Bill McKibben spoke Saturday morning as part of the "Corporate Green" panel at the Society of Environmental Journalists Conference in Burington, Vermont.

Though he was flooded with people wanting to meet him afterwards, I managed to be on hand when Bill Blakemore, senior correspondent for ABC News, introduced himself and asked McKibben a few questions about climate change and where we're headed politically.

Listen to their 6-minute conversation here. One of my favorite quotes from McKibben, wondering about what has gone wrong with the media coverage of the issue: "It's not a complicated story at all. There's never been a simpler scientific story - burn gas, emit carbon dioxide, heat the atmosphere. That's it. It's not like you need to be a PhD to understand it. And in fact, 80% of Americans believe it's real and think it's happening and believe we should do something about it, and it's been that way for a long time."
Interview with Rick Piltz of Climate Science Watch
DeSmogBlog's Richard Littlemore did this 7-minute interview with Rick Piltz, Founder and Director of Climate Science Watch, after the session "Global Warming: Reporting on What's Going to Be Changing in Your Backyard".

The ozone hole, climate change and the Canadian Arctic
Global warming is not the first global environmental threat that humanity is facing. The thinning of the protective ozone layer caused by chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) was the first global environmental threat. It led to a concerted global action to ban CFCs by the 1990s to correct the problem. This edition of the podcast considers what lessons can be learned from this environmental problem for dealing with global warming. It suggests that not applying the cautionary principle to the ozone thinning in the 1970s led to the emergence of the so called hole in the ozone layer.

In the second half of the podcast Dr Liza Piper of the University of Alberta explores how the settler societies in Arctic Canada are to a large extent influenced and determined by the climatic conditions during the last stages of the Little Ice Age.
