Celebrating success and forging ahead on renewable energy
The Ontario Power Authority plans on doubling the province’s supply of green electricity. The goal is to have 15,700 megawatts (MW) of renewable power on-line in 2025, double the amount in 2005.

Electricity Pricing in Canada
In 2006, Canada generated more than 585,000 gigawatt hours of electricity, exported more than 41,300 gigawatt hours of electricity to the United States and imported more than 24,000 gigawatt hours. Canadian electricity generation varies from province to province in terms of energy sources, but overall includes a mix of hydro-electricity, thermal generation from fossil fuels and nuclear energy. Electricity pricing varies mainly according to three main factors: the volume per type of generation available, the type of available generation, and whether prices are market-based or regulated.

Smarter electric grid could be key to saving power
Instead of merely supplying electricity, power suppliers will be able to tell us how to use it more wisely. Technology is now available that will interact between the grid and your home, controlling thermostats, appliances and lights according to criteria programmed by the home owner.

Backgrounder
The EnerGuide Appliance Directory 2007, (14.5MB PDF) issued by Natural Resources Canada’s Office of Energy Efficiency rates the energy consumption of major household appliances to assist Canadians in making energy efficient purchases.
Partner Profile
The Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) is the national forum and voice of the evolving electricity business in Canada. The Association contributes to the regional, national and international success of its members through the delivery of quality value-added services.
CEA Releases Policy Paper
The Canadian Electricity Association issued a policy paper entitled “Providing Reliable Energy in a Time of Constraints: A North American Concern” (850KB PDF). The paper presents the Canadian industry’s views on opportunities for cooperation between Canada and the United States on challenges facing the electricity sector.
Micro-generation and selling back to the grid
On February 1, 2008 the Government of Alberta issued the Micro-Generation Regulation, (160KB PDF) which. allows Albertans to generate their own environmentally friendly electricity and receive credit for any power they send into the electricity grid.
